The Library's collection is arranged by Library of Congress Classification and the call number will be a combination of letters and numbers. They are read read left-to-right, top-to-bottom. In JETfind, you can find the Call Number in both the brief and detailed record. The Call numbers are also located on the spine of the book.

Using Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi as an example, the call number is  PN6747.S245 P4713 2003

  1. First letters: one, two or three letters that are arranged alphabetically. So P comes before PN which comes before PS
  2. First numbers: the first set of numbers are read as whole numbers. So PN500 comes before PN6747 which comes before PN7500
  3. Second letters: come after the period and are arranged alphabetically. So .B comes before .S which comes before .Z
  4. Second numbers: are treated as decimals. So .13 comes before .245 which comes before .5.
  5. There can be more letter and number combinations added, as in this example with P4713
  6. Last, the year which is the four-digit number at the end 2003
